Mark, Ced and I are heading down in a van tonight - leaving at midnight - to Mirrissa where we shall check on all our friends there and in nearby Weligama and Matara. (we used to live in Matara and the house we lived in is no more) We have a van full of basic supplies, including loads of water, rice and lentils... We are setting up a base in Mirrissa - we have a room in which to do this already sorted.

We have got hold of a lorry and this is being filled with basics through some suppliers in Colombo. Our Sri Lankan friends, Kumar, Panni and Pyius have great contacts and these items are being brought at cost. This includes; medical supplies, cooking utensils, clothing, baby bottles, milk powder and various other supplies deemed useful by our contacts in the south.

This lorry will head to the govt. camps in the south and be distributed that way. If we tried to do it we would get ourselves in trouble. It should be on its way by Thursday night.

We then intend to use this lorry and van, and a couple of other lorries we are trying to get hold of, to ferry supplies from Colombo and other parts of the country to affected areas. We intend to head to Ampara district, in the east, as soon as possible. We shall probably concentrate on the more expensive medical supplies as we hear that is what is severely lacking, but that will be played by ear. It is very difficult to get accurate information from these places at the moment. Obviously people here are not rich and have tended to donate the basics. However this plan will be entirely fluid as we shall do what we can where we can.
