Thal Aramba Pre-School: The opening ceremony

Aid Sri Lanka is overseeing the construction of a pre-school in Thal Aramba, Matara. This project is being funded by Travel Aid 50 and PATA.

The opening ceremony for the new Pre-School created much excitement amongst the people of Thal Aramba, hundreds of whom joined in the day’s events.

After the cutting of the ribbon a group of children dressed in white and holding red flowers sung the traditional welcome song as the attendees took their seats in the large and beautifully decorated hall.

After some introductory words from the teachers Claire, Sam, Tom and the contractors lit the ceremonial coconut lamps. The rest of the day passed with a variety of speeches from the teachers, Monk, local politicians and of course the Aid Sri Lanka team, interspersed with entertaining performances from the children.

Miss Anoma and Miss Nilu had done a wonderful job choreographing numerous dance routines which the children impressively remembered and performed to the large audience. The brightly coloured costumes and props really brought the show to life.

It was a fantastic occasion enjoyed by all and it was wonderful to see the hall being used and enjoyed by so many people.
