Just to let you know that the mobile clinic has been up and running now for three days as of Friday night (7th). We have visited 8 camps and set up 3 impromptu village clinics. So far it has been a great success; administering to wounds, cuts and scrapes and dosing people with infections picked up in the camps and from the water itself. Many people seem to be coming for simple help and reassurance and they are packed off with some care, attention and vitamins!

We are finding that people are very scared and traumatised behind their ever ready smiles - constant rumours of more tsunamis are plaguing them. However at this stage the danger of mass outbreaks of disease etc.. seems to be low. The various authorities seem to have this side of things largely in hand. We are really filling in the gaps where we can and every time, within in seconds of setting up, we have long lines of people, ranging from the very ill to those who are simply miserable, queuing to see Dr Pippa and Dr Tenakoon.

Our thanks to Dr Tenakoon who has now returned to his patients in Wennappuwa; for helping us, for his good humour and his invaluable insights into Sri Lankan healthcare. He is typical of many Sri Lankans who have dropped everything to help others in affected areas. So to is Samantha, working as a nurse, translator and all round area advisor - who left his damaged guesthouse to help others in more need than himself. When you all get round to coming out here - once all this is over - I hope you pay him a visit!
