We successfully completed two drops on Monday 10th Jan (were due to drop on the 9th but media reports of a typhoon created widespread panic and we postponed). There were two camps, a temple and a school, both in the Matara. We had found out on Saturday exactly what was required. The food situation was fine - but the people in these camps lacked all basic provisions to enable them to move on with their lives. The items requested and delivered were packaged into family packs. Each person got a shirt or a t-shirt, flip flops, underwear, while each family got male and female sarongs, bed-sheets, mosquito nets, a kerosene stove, kerosene, cooking pots, sanitary towels and a sleeping mat. We also distributed cricket bats and badminton racquets for the children. In all we handed out to 313 families - 900 people.

Both drops were efficient and labour intensive - by careful planning and a ticketing system we made sure our goods got distributed evenly. This was made easier by he fact that we have a good relationship with the people at both these camps, since we have held several clinics at both camps already.

We also did a house to house drop in Mirissa on Tuesday. Using our local contacts we got goods off to families in damaged houses. We have been based in Mirissa while we carried out this job and we did not want to drive in and out with loaded vehicles without giving the locals here anything.

We finished with a game of cricket in which we got thrashed. We'll leave them to it in future!

A full inventory and more pictures will be posted as soon as someone returns to headquarters!
