A small cash for work scheme was run in Mirissa yesterday and the day before in which 20 local women were paid to clean the beach of rubbish and debris. Sam and Kumar oversaw the operation in addition to our progrmme in Thalaramaba. For reasons unfathomable to ourselves, certain locals had been disposing their waste on the beach itself - the main source of the town's income. |
