Aid Sri Lanka has teamed up with Matara Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry to help them in the great work they are doing. They have been identifying women entrepreneurs affected by the tsunami and helping them get back on their feet.

Out of their many projects, we are sponsoring the bridal ladies (who dress brides in the elaborate wedding saris and make-up custom to Sri Lanka) and the string hopper makers (which are like a small birds-nest of steamed rice noodles which is eaten with dhal for breakfast).

The 2 million rupees that you all donated will buy equipment, raw materials and training for 80 women and office equipment for the chamber to continue their good work.

The proposal can be downloaded here.

There is a memorandum of understanding signed between ourselves at "Aid Sri Lanka" and the "Matara Woman's Chamber of Commerce", whereby the Chamber of commerce agree to carry out the tasks outlined in their proposal. "Aid Sri Lanka" propose to maintain a check on how this money is being spent as part of the deal.
