We apologise that full financial reports have not been made sooner. We have lodged all our accounts with a local accountant, but we need to switch them to a larger accountancy firm due to the difficulty in dealing with receipts in three languages.

All the money spent so far is accounted for. Here is a break down of how the money has been spent. Please note, once Claire arrives, she will spend some time making a full interim financial report available on this website.

Spend so far: £65,000

Of which:

£19,251

The Moratuwa temporary house building project.

£11,229

The Matara Woman's chamber of commerce project.

£1,500

The swimming project.

£33,000

General immediate relief effort. This included all the aid runs, transport, refugee camp cleaning and other cash for work projects etc.

Please note that the money given from the individual donors has already been spent on immediate relief and aid as above. Indeed the main part was spent two months ago. The remaining £35,000 or so, is money raised more recently by organisations and groups, through events of some kind or another. Most of it has only fairly recently actually been paid into the 'Aid Sri Lanka' account, so it remains uncommitted. (Obviously one must be very cautious about committing to projects and then not delivering.)

We are in the process of applying for registered charity status which will mean you will have a chance to add to our fund by signing a form we will send out. This will allow us to claim the tax back on your donation.

For those of you larger donors who may wish to offset the donation against your own tax - that will be possible too as we understand it.
