Moratuwa: Mission Accomplished

This project provides a community living in terrible conditions with the raw materials to build themselves temporary shelters.

The shelters are now completed and the residents are enjoying their new airy, dry homes. The speed at which the shelters were erected was amazing and it has been great to see this community so focused and so determined and ultimately so satisfied with what they achieved.

The overhang of the roofs provide shady corridors where residents gather and pass the day.

Resourceful by nature, members of the community have used the leftover scraps of wood to make furniture for their new homes, chairs, beds and even ladders. Nothing has been wasted.

The old tents are banished to a corner of the camp, a pile of mouldy material that they are glad not to sleep under.

Impaktaid have now completed the four new toilets which are a marked improvement on the old one.

While our project here is finished we will pay regular visits to the camp to make sure that the immediate needs of the community are being met.
